Mon 21:00 he has had a good day today, taking a few small positive steps towards waking up. his consultants are pleased with his progress. he is lightly sedated tonight to enable him to sleep comfortably. Tomorrow he will be off sedation completely. the next big step is for him to be fully awake and able to breathe unassisted. we hope to see further steps towards this tomorrow. i expect the next update will be late afternoon or evening. thank you for your support.

Mon 16:30 he continues to take small steps forward on the long journey ahead. we have spoken to the ICU consultant who is happy with his progress. he has only a small amount of residual sedation in him, and is breathing by himself with minimal assistance. we have played him some of his familiar awful music, and would appreciate it if those who speak to him often could send a sound clip of them speaking so we can play familiar vouces to him; email address as below. thank you also for your brilliant emails we share with him. Mon 08:00 he had a good night. recently he opened his eyes in response to his name and smiled at the mention of mum and dad, which is wonderful news. as he is no longer on regular sedation, his stats are more variable, and nurses are monitoring this. still a long way to go, but heading in the right direction. we are thankful and continue to hope and pray.

Sun 22:00 it has been a day of small positives, and we will rest better tonight. we have seen further improvements, and look for that to continue tomorrow, while still a long way to go. thank you for your support and prayers. more tomorrow.

Sun 19:15 we have seen a few small positive responses, including opening of eyes, small hand and head movements which is good news, while recognising there is a long way to go. we have been reading your wonderful messages to him, and are now on Chapter 4 of Swallows and Amazons.

Sun 13:30 as his stats are good, they have started to wean him off sedation. this is a critical phase in his recovery, especially as we see how his brain responds to the trauma. this may take hours or days, and may take several attempts. so it is a very uncertain time for us, and we appreciate your continuing thoughts and prayers. it will be difficult to gauge how things are going, but i will update his status here as best i can.

Sun 02:30 he is resting under sedation in ICU. he is stable and we have been able to see him. the main hurdle awaits - seeing how his brain responds once the sedation is reduced. for Sunday he will continue to be sedated to allow his brain and body to rest and recover. on Monday they will review. so the next update will likely be on Monday, enabling us all to rest and recover on Sunday.

Sat 19:15 surgery went well. condition very stable. surgeon very pleased with how it went. he will remain sedated for a day or two. so good news. probably nothing much more to say until later tomorrow.

Sat 17:45 his surgery was delayed until 13:00 but we weren't told and have just found out. apologies. he is still in surgery now. we do not expect to hear for a while. further update at 20:00

Sat 16:00 no news yet. he is probably still in recovery after the surgery, so hasn't returned to ICU yet where we are waiting. next update 18:00

Sat 09:00 he is in surgery now.

Sat 08:00 good stats overnight. he is currently due for maxillofacial surgery at 9am, unless other emergency cases arrive. it may be 4pm before we hear further, but we will update when we hear more if earlier. thank you for your thoughts and prayers. you can send a message - see below.

Fri 22:30 no further news. update in the morning.

Fri 17:30 continues stable, stats are good. remains sedated / unconscious. spoke to consultant. pleased with stats. surgery likely Sat morning for multiple facial fractures. needs 5-hour slot, hence the delay. thank you for your support.

Thur 13:00 fall off tandem on road. friend at front bruised and scraped but okay. ambulance arrives within 10 minutes to take ours to ICU at hospital heavily sedated
